Kent was raised in Marquette Michigan. In 1997, at the age of 18, he received the Governor's Volunteer Youth Award. In 2002 he graduated from Michigan State University summa cum laude. He went on to graduate from Cooley Law School as a cum laude graduate in 2007.
After graduating Law School, Kent decided to remain in Lansing, Michigan. He spent the next four years practicing law and was admitted to practice into the Eastern and Western District Federal courts.
In 2011, Kent made the decision to become a solo practitioner, emphasizing his area of practice on family law and probate and estate law. Two years later, in 2013, he joined forces with United Paralegals of America and Wood & Associates, PLLC was born.
Kent's mission is to assist clients in making informed and educated decisions with no false representation, and to provide realistic expectations for their outcomes. Over the course of the last nine years, he has represented thousands of clients, handled multi-million dollar trusts, and provided pro-bono work for select local residents in need.
Kent and his wife Mandy have eight children who all attend Holt public schools. He is the assistant Scout Master of Troop 43 in Diamondale, Michigan, is an avid fisherman, and enjoys playing board games such as Catan and Lord of Waterdeep.
Jami is a native of Olivet Michigan. She graduated from Olivet in 2004 and went on to study Legal Administration at Kellogg Community College, in Battle Creek, MI. She joined Wood & Associates in 2013 and was exclusively mentored by Attorney Kent Wood for five years. She continues to further her education through the Institute for Paralegal Education.
Over the last 7 years, Jami has thrived as a Paralegal and Administrative Assistant. She specializes in bankruptcy and child custody. You can see she has a passion for helping people every day through the work that she does, and she takes pride in creating long lasting relationships with our clients.
Jami and her husband Chris have been blessed with two children. When she is not at the office, Jami and her family enjoy traveling, water sports, and boating.
If you ask Joe, he will say he is the janitor, but his work expands to much more than that. Not only is Joe our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), he is also our marketing strategist. Joe also oversees client intakes, staffing, and much more. Joe is the type of person to whom you can take any problem to, so when issues arise, the entire Wood & Associates staff knows that they can take those issues up to him for direction and solutions.
Joe and his significant other, Suzanne, have three children and three dogs. When Joe is not at work, he enjoys a nice day on the boat, or a nice dinner with a nice bottle of red wine. Joe and Suzanne also enjoy being outdoors and doing anything that involves being in nature such as camping, swimming, etc.
Paul was born and raised in St. Claire, MI, and graduated from St. Claire High School in 2006. He went on to graduate summa cum laude from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in History and Spanish. In 2013 Paul graduated cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and won the juris prudence award in research, writing and advocacy. After law school Paul started practicing with a firm in Saginaw, Michigan until joining the Wood and Associate's Battle Creek location in 2018, to provide the firm with an Attorney fluent in Spanish.
Paul is a highly skilled Attorney. He is the Attorney that you might catch at the office on a Saturday afternoon, putting in the extra time that helps win cases. He is always willing to go the extra mile, and nobody could ever question his dedication to his clients.
When Paul is not at the office, you could find him at a museum or coffee shop. He enjoys reading, exploring, and supporting Battle Creek's small local businesses, and enjoys fine wine and artisanal cheeses.
Brigette was born and raised in Oakland County, MI. She grew up in Rochester Hills. While growing up she embraced diversity every step of the way.
Brigette is a proud veteran; she was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 2001.
Brigette earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Linguistics from Michigan State University. Her next step was to pursue her passion for law, which led her to graduate cum laude from Cooley Law School in 2012. Her collegiate career continued, by earning two LLMs in Corporate Law and Insurance Law from Western Michigan University. She passed the bar in 2014 and was admitted into the Eastern District of Michigan in 2015. It is very important for Brigette to be a member of the Ingham County Bar Association and the Animal Legal Defense.
Currently, Brigette resides in Lansing with her spouse and child. Giving back to the community by doing pro bono work in the field of animal law brings Brigette a lot of joy. While English is her primary language, Brigette does speak Spanish and Swahili.
Karen was born in Honduras. She immigrated to the United States when she was just ten years old and spent most of her childhood and adult life in New York City.
Karen attended New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, New York, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies and graduated magna cum laude. Karen worked as a paralegal for over 10 years, a time during which she developed a strong passion for the law and for helping people.
Her passion led her to Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she graduated cum laude. Through determination, perseverance, and drive, Karen was on the Dean's list several times, participated in Law Review as a Preemption and Screening Editor, and received Certificates of Merit. She was also the recipient of the Leadership Achievement Award for her involvement in leadership roles.
When Karen is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Carl, and their dog, Robbie. For Karen, it is especially important to spend time with her family and friends whom she loves very much. She also enjoys taking long walks, traveling, and being outdoors during the summer season.
Christine was born and raised in Jackson, Michigan. After graduating from Northwest High School, Christine attended Michigan State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She then attained her Juris Doctorate degree from Cooley Law School with a concentration in Litigation. While at Cooley Law School, Christine also made the Dean's List. She was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2010.
Christine is actively involved in the community and enjoys spending time with her son. Her passion for people and dedication to justice drives her to be the attorney willing to go the extra mile.
Carlos was born and raised in Flint, MI. Carlos graduated with honors from Albion College in 2002 with a degree in philosophy and political science as well as a minor in public service completing the prestigious Ford Program.
Carlos studied law at Michigan State University College of Law graduating in 2007. While in law school, Carlos was on the Dean’s List multiple times and obtained a mediation certificate. As a lawyer, he has handled many types of cases, but his primary focus has been in Family Law.
Carlos is very dedicated to his clients and wants to provide the best experience possible for them. He will zealously represent his client’s interests, no matter the opposition. Carlos is very proud to be a part of the Wood & Associates team and appreciates the tradition of excellence that they have built.
When not at work, Carlos spends his time tinkering with technology. He enjoys building electronics and computers.
Deborah was born and raised in Calhoun County, Michigan. In 2010, she graduated from Tekonsha High School and went on to attend Olivet College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Psychology.
Deborah is always the person that walks in with a smile, answers our phones cheerfully, and is happy to take care of our guests and clients in any way she possibly can. Her meticulous care and attention to detail make her a standout from the rest.
Deb and her husband Carl, daughter Payton, and dog Luna enjoy the outdoors lifestyle. They enjoy camping, fishing, and hunting. Do not think that this girl will not get her hands muddy!
Sarah was born and raised in Hastings, Michigan. In 2014, Sarah graduated from Kellogg Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services.
Sarah has four children. She also has dogs and cats. Sarah and her boyfriend do a ton of antiquing and hiking with their dogs (lab and husky). They also enjoy camping, kayaking, playing soccer, and watching kids play sports. Sarah also enjoys watching her daughter, who is a volleyball coach in a local high school, coach. Additionally, Sarah’s kids are very active and play lots of sports.
Emily was born and raised in Charlotte, MI. In 2010, Emily graduated from Charlotte High School and went on to study Criminal Justice at Olivet College. Emily has always had a passion for helping people, which led her to work in the field of family law.
While not at work, Emily enjoys spending time with her friends and family which include her four-year-old son; taking trips to the beach and discovering all the beautiful places Michigan has to offer. Emily also enjoys reading, jigsaw puzzles, and game nights.
Amy grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, and Graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Sociology in 2006. She received her Associates's degree in Applied Business as a paralegal from Eastern Gateway Community College in Ohio in 2020.
Amy received a Family Service Credential and was a part of the AmeriCorps program which allowed her the opportunity to become a part of helping with Katrina in New Orleans.
Amy currently resides in Pinckney, Michigan with her Husband Michael, son Gabriel, Father-in-law Mike, and her two dogs, Chico the Chihuahua, and Shadow the Blue Heeler. Amy enjoys being with her family, playing disc golf with her son and husband, reading, playing sports with her son, and playing board games with her husband.
