Kent was raised in Marquette Michigan. In 1997, at the age of 18, he received the Governor's Volunteer Youth Award. In 2002 he graduated from Michigan State University summa cum laude. He went on to graduate from Cooley Law School as a cum laude graduate in 2007.
After graduating Law School, Kent decided to remain in Lansing, Michigan. He spent the next four years practicing law and was admitted to practice into the Eastern and Western District Federal courts.
In 2011, Kent made the decision to become a solo practitioner, emphasizing his area of practice on family law and probate and estate law. Two years later, in 2013, he joined forces with United Paralegals of America and Wood & Associates, PLLC was born.
Kent's mission is to assist clients in making informed and educated decisions with no false representation, and to provide realistic expectations for their outcomes. Over the course of the last nine years, he has represented thousands of clients, handled multi-million dollar trusts, and provided pro-bono work for select local residents in need.
Kent and his wife Mandy have eight children who all attend Holt public schools. He is the assistant Scout Master of Troop 43 in Diamondale, Michigan, is an avid fisherman, and enjoys playing board games such as Catan and Lord of Waterdeep.
Jami is a native of Olivet Michigan. She graduated from Olivet in 2004 and went on to study Legal Administration at Kellogg Community College, in Battle Creek, MI. She joined Wood & Associates in 2013 and was exclusively mentored by Attorney Kent Wood for five years. She continues to further her education through the Institute for Paralegal Education.
Over the last 7 years, Jami has thrived as a Paralegal and Administrative Assistant. She specializes in bankruptcy and child custody. You can see she has a passion for helping people every day through the work that she does, and she takes pride in creating long lasting relationships with our clients.
Jami and her husband Chris have been blessed with two children. When she is not at the office, Jami and her family enjoy traveling, water sports, and boating.
If you ask Joe, he will say he is the janitor, but his work expands to much more than that. Not only is Joe our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), he is also our marketing strategist. Joe also oversees client intakes, staffing, and much more. Joe is the type of person to whom you can take any problem to, so when issues arise, the entire Wood & Associates staff knows that they can take those issues up to him for direction and solutions.
Joe and his significant other, Suzanne, have three children and three dogs. When Joe is not at work, he enjoys a nice day on the boat, or a nice dinner with a nice bottle of red wine. Joe and Suzanne also enjoy being outdoors and doing anything that involves being in nature such as camping, swimming, etc.
Paul was born and raised in St. Claire, MI, and graduated from St. Claire High School in 2006. He went on to graduate summa cum laude from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in History and Spanish. In 2013 Paul graduated cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law and won the juris prudence award in research, writing and advocacy. After law school Paul started practicing with a firm in Saginaw, Michigan until joining the Wood and Associate's Battle Creek location in 2018, to provide the firm with an Attorney fluent in Spanish.
Paul is a highly skilled Attorney. He is the Attorney that you might catch at the office on a Saturday afternoon, putting in the extra time that helps win cases. He is always willing to go the extra mile, and nobody could ever question his dedication to his clients.
When Paul is not at the office, you could find him at a museum or coffee shop. He enjoys reading, exploring, and supporting Battle Creek's small local businesses, and enjoys fine wine and artisanal cheeses.
Brigette was born and raised in Oakland County, MI. She grew up in Rochester Hills. While growing up she embraced diversity every step of the way.
Brigette is a proud veteran; she was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 2001.
Brigette earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Linguistics from Michigan State University. Her next step was to pursue her passion for law, which led her to graduate cum laude from Cooley Law School in 2012. Her collegiate career continued, by earning two LLMs in Corporate Law and Insurance Law from Western Michigan University. She passed the bar in 2014 and was admitted into the Eastern District of Michigan in 2015. It is very important for Brigette to be a member of the Ingham County Bar Association and the Animal Legal Defense.
Currently, Brigette resides in Lansing with her spouse and child. Giving back to the community by doing pro bono work in the field of animal law brings Brigette a lot of joy. While English is her primary language, Brigette does speak Spanish and Swahili.
Karen was born in Honduras. She immigrated to the United States when she was just ten years old and spent most of her childhood and adult life in New York City.
Karen attended New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn, New York, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies and graduated magna cum laude. Karen worked as a paralegal for over 10 years, a time during which she developed a strong passion for the law and for helping people.
Her passion led her to Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she graduated cum laude. Through determination, perseverance, and drive, Karen was on the Dean's list several times, participated in Law Review as a Preemption and Screening Editor, and received Certificates of Merit. She was also the recipient of the Leadership Achievement Award for her involvement in leadership roles.
When Karen is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Carl, and their dog, Robbie. For Karen, it is especially important to spend time with her family and friends whom she loves very much. She also enjoys taking long walks, traveling, and being outdoors during the summer season.
Jennifer was born and raised in Santa Clarita, CA. She graduated with honors from SUNY Fredonia with a degree in criminal justice as well as a minor in political science. Jennifer studied law at Cooley Law School and graduated magna cum laude in 2017. While in law school, Jennifer was on the dean's list multiple times and obtained the certificate of merit for Constitutional Law I. Jennifer was the recipient the SBA Distinguished student award and the Leadership Achievement award for her involvement in various boards and organizations.
As a lawyer, Jennifer has practiced in the areas of municipal, criminal, probate, estate planning, and family law. Currently, Jennifer's focus is family law. Jennifer listens to her client's desired results and offers realistic legal advice tailored to their needs.
When Jennifer is not in the office, she enjoys baking, crocheting, long walks in the fall, and a variety of video games. You will also find her supporting local shops and businesses.
Sarah was born and raised in Hastings, Michigan. In 2014, Sarah graduated from Kellogg Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services.
Sarah has four children. She also has dogs and cats. Sarah and her boyfriend do a ton of antiquing and hiking with their dogs (lab and husky). They also enjoy camping, kayaking, playing soccer, and watching kids play sports. Sarah also enjoys watching her daughter, who is a volleyball coach in a local high school, coach. Additionally, Sarah’s kids are very active and play lots of sports.
Ivan was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and moved to the Lansing area to attend Michigan State University in 2007. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Industry Management from MSU, Ivan decided to stay in the Lansing area and began working as production supervisor and eventually an inventory control specialist at a local food manufacturing facility.
After a few years in the work force Ivan begun exploring a career change. Always having an interest in the law, but never really giving any serious thought about becoming a lawyer, Ivan decided to take the LSAT just to explore the option. After being offered a scholarship by Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, Ivan decided to enroll part-time, while still working full-time, for a semester just to further explore the option. Fast forward a few years, and Ivan graduated Manga Cum Laude from WMU Cooley Law School, and begun practicing law focusing mainly on estate planning, criminal law, and business formation. After joining Wood & Associates, Ivan has developed a passion for family law.
If Ivan is not at work, you will find him on a golf course. He is an avid golfer that occasionally breaks 80. Anybody that knows Ivan will tell you, if he's not talking about the law, he's talking about golf. Ivan also participates in a few social sports leagues outside of golf, including basketball, and softball. Ivan also loves to travel and is always ready for an adventure.
Miranda was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 and continued to Davenport University where she studied business management and accounting. Miranda would describe herself as a "people person" who enjoys going above and beyond to help those within her community. As a member of the team at Wood & Associates, Miranda works on the front end to assure that all clients have prompt and accurate service regarding all aspects of their respective cases.
Miranda has no children but would argue that she does indeed have a baby, which comes in the form of her beloved dog, Sissy. She also has three nieces and a nephew, whom she refers to as "her kids," and whom she enjoys taking on adventures whenever she can. Miranda is a self-described "foodie" and will try just about anything once. When she is not in the office, Miranda enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with family.
Alexis was born and raised in De Pere, WI and graduated from De Pere High School in 2017. She then moved to Mount Pleasant, MI to attend Central Michigan University from where she graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and International Relations in May 2021.
Alexis plans to attend law school in the next couple of years and is currently studying for the LSAT. In the meantime, Alexis is working at Wood & Associates, PLLC to gain experience within the legal field before she begins law school.
Alexis currently lives in Lansing with her cat Onyx. When Alexis is not at work, she enjoys going on walks through downtown Lansing, finding new local restaurants to dine in, and spending time with her friends.
